Atlanta United’s pursuit of U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper Brad Guzan has come to an end, but the club will have to wait for their prize.
The club hoped to have Guzan available to them to start the MLS season in March, but they will have to wait until the summer transfer window. That window opens on July 10, meaning that the first game Guzan could play for Atlanta would be July 21 in Orlando.
According to Middlesbrough, he will be on a “multi-year” contract and joined the club through the league’s allocation process. Atlanta chose the top spot in the allocation order at the Expansion Priority Draft last October.
Goalkeepers Alec Kann and Alex Tambakis will battle it out to play prior to Guzan’s arrival. Alex Kapp is also in the mix as an unsigned draft pick at the club’s training camp in Bradenton, Florida. Between the three, they have eight games of MLS experience.
