Tata Martino’s squad hit the field at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida this morning at 9:00 a.m. for their first ever training session.
Owner Arthur Blank was on hand to witness the historic event. He could have been forgiven for missing it, planning for 500 employees to travel to Houston for a big game can be time consuming, but Uncle Arthur was not going to miss this.
Doug Roberson of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution dropped two nuggets from training camp today. Tyrone Mears, while not officially announced as part of the Atlanta United squad, is in camp with the team. Zach Loyd, selected in the Expansion Draft, is not there yet but will report on Friday.
Another player who is not on hand in Bradenton yet is left back Greg Garza. Currently with the U.S. men’s national team, Charles Boehm caught up with him to get his thoughts on his move to Atlanta and his recovery from injury.
The squad returned to the field at 4:30 p.m. for their second session of the day. Tomorrow will see a 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. session. Single sessions will make up the training schedule for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before an off day on Sunday.
